Meta’s ad system learns from the purchases it can see. Privacy prompts on iPhones, ad blockers and cookie banners all hide some of those purchases from the browser pixel. The Conversions API sends them from the server instead.
Use the pixel and the API together
Don’t replace the pixel. Run both, and give each event the same name and the same event ID so Meta counts it once. This is called deduplication. Without it, every purchase can be counted twice and your results look better than they are.
The Shopify setup
Meta’s Facebook and Instagram sales channel on Shopify can send server events for you. Choose the data-sharing level that includes the Conversions API, and connect it to the right pixel and ad account. Custom and headless stores can send events through a server integration instead.
Check the match quality
In Events Manager, each event has an Event Match Quality score. It improves when you send customer details such as email address and phone number, which are hashed before they leave your store. Only send what your privacy policy and consent banner allow.
Verify before you trust it
- Place a test order and watch it arrive in the Test Events tool.
- Confirm the browser and server events are marked as deduplicated.
- Compare a week of Meta-reported purchases with your Shopify orders.
Respect consent
UK and EU rules mean tracking cookies need consent. Use Shopify’s customer privacy settings with a proper cookie banner, so tracking follows each visitor’s choice.
Then simplify your campaigns
With better data, fewer campaigns with broader audiences often work well. Put your effort into testing new static and carousel creative every week.
