When someone searches for “linen bedding” or “women’s running shoes”, the best page to show them is usually a collection, not a single product. That makes collection pages some of the most valuable pages on your store.
Give each collection its own title and description
Write a unique title tag and meta description for every collection in Shopify’s search engine listing settings. Put the main phrase near the start of the title, your brand at the end, and keep it to about 60 characters so it isn’t cut off.
Add copy that helps people choose
A sentence or two above the products sets the scene without pushing products down the page. A longer section below the grid can answer common questions: how to pick a size, which material suits what, how to care for it. Write it for shoppers first.
Avoid duplicate URLs
Shopify can show the same product at more than one address, for example inside a collection path. It adds canonical tags pointing to the main product URL, but some themes still link to the longer versions. Make sure your theme links to the main product URL so search engines see one clear address.
- Keep filtered and sorted views from competing with the main collection page.
- Avoid near-identical collections for every tag.
Link to collections from the right places
Search engines follow links to judge what matters. Link to key collections from the main menu, from related collections and from blog posts on the same topic.
Add structured data and alt text
Breadcrumb structured data helps search engines understand where a collection sits in your store. Descriptive alt text on product images helps image search and makes the page usable with a screen reader.
